Toi Derricotte Reads “Frederick Douglass” by Robert Hayden

September 17, 2020 — Toi Derricotte reads a classic 1947 poem by Robert Hayden (1913–1980) and then briefly discusses it with Kevin Young. Derricotte's reading was part of the launch event for "Lift Every Voice," a nationwide celebration of the 250-year-long African American poetic tradition presented by Library of America and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. "Let America Be America Again" is included in the Library of America anthology African American Poetry: 250 Years of Struggle and Song, edited by Young.
